DIY Pelmet Boxes

After my mini-mudroom project, I had several yards extra of my bench fabric.
This is the bench and fabric to which I am referring.

This is the mini-mudroom project from before.

I had ideas spinning in my head as to how to carry this color scheme over to my kitchen/eating area and also  address the bay window. I knew I did not want curtains as I'm not a huge fan of valences (not sure why...) and long ones were out of the question with a little guy running around and food close by. While browsing through my Google Reader, I came across a project to build pelmet boxes out of foam core and duct tape. The best part...they hang with a simple nail!! Easy Peasy!! So, this became the new plan!!  Check out the results! (How-to is below.)

This is my bay-window/eating area before.

And...AFTER!  Totally finishes the space!

Another view...and half of my dog! lol!

The colors tie in beautifully with my Garden Ridge greenery. (I got it forever ago, but they probably still have similar pieces if not the same. They were purchased seperately and arranged together by yours truly.)

Now for the good stuff...the HOW-TO!! I found these instructions from Design Gal & Her Handyman. If you haven't checked out her blog, do so! She has great ideas and projects!

One thing I learned from doing this:  Tape the sides in a 90 degree angle BEFORE you cover the foam core with batting and fabric. I tried after and it was WAYYYY more frustrating than it needed to be.

Also, get creative with the bottom design. I copied the one in the tutorial, but if you search, there are great designs out there. I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Hope everyone has fun dressing their windows!!  :-)
